Project: Research on Cationic Polymerization of Isobutylene Initiated by H2O/AlCl3 in Microreactor
 
1. Simulation of mixing and flow in the microreactor

Combining CFD simulation and experimental methods, the temporal and spatial profiles of mixing and flow in sudden expansion, extraction and coiled tube were revealed. Through the research, the optimization criterion of microreactor’ geometric construction was developed for choosing an optimal reactor for reactions.
2. Polymerization of isobutylene in the flow reactor

We have built a microflow system which is suitable for the research of cationic polymerization. On the microflow platform, we have investigated the characteristic of chain reactions initiated by H2O/AlCl3, the polymerization precesses under intensified mixing, the controlled synthesis of highly reactive polyisobutylenes, and so on.
